South Course

18 Holes, Par 72

Built in 1926, the South Course is the original 18-holes of the Club that plays like a links course.

Out of bounds comes into play on seven of the holes and the par fives play much tougher than they appear on the scorecard.

Considered the prettier of the two, the South Course hosts many corporate and non-profit events annually.

Hole 1

Hole #1 is one of the shortest par four’s that has out of bounds down the left side.

Be careful off the tee as hitting left or right can make this short par 4 play much longer.

Greenside bunkers guard this green on both sides so a middle of the green approach shot is ideal.

Hole 2

Hole #2 is a long par four that plays through a line of trees down the right and out of bounds left. Keep your drive to the left center of the fairway, missing the long fairway bunker. If you miss your drive right you will be faced with a risky shot of punching the ball under the trees or taking the safe play and chipping back out to the fairway with a short iron as your third shot.

A large bunker protects the left side of the green.

This hole can play into the wind so be ready to add a club one or even two to ensure your shot to the green.

Hole 3

Number 3 is the first par three on this side is a straightway par three with bunkers on the left side. A good player can be aggressive with a tee shot and go for the pin to this relatively flat green.

PAR - 3

Hole 4

Hole #4 is a narrow par four with out of bounds defined by a fence going up the right side of the hole. A straight drive down the right center of the fairway avoiding the trees and fairway bunkers on the left will leave a simple approach shot.

A long or short approach to the green will leave you with a tricky up and down for par.

Hole 5

Hole #5 is one of the shortest par four’s on the course. Long hitters can clear the bunker in the middle of the fairway or play it safe and go to the right center of the fairway for a better angle at the green. The approach shot requires a high lofted shot over the greenside bunkers to a small green.

Hole 6

This risk reward par five, #6 with water on the left side can come into play for the long hitters. A straight tee shot favoring the right side of the fairway leaves the player with the best options. A long drive in the fairway can give a long hitting player the opportunity to go for the green on the second shot. Hitting a safe lay-up shot to the right front of the green while avoiding the bunker on the left can make for an easy par. Depending on pin location, you do not want to be below the hole here as this is a two tiered undulating green

Hole 7

Hole #7 is a moderate dog leg right par four. Favor the left side of the fairway to avoid the bunker on the right. This will leave a easy approach shot to a two tiered green. Just make sure you have enough distance to reach the green so that you avoid the collection area in front of this elevated green.

Hole 8

Another signature hole, #8 is a short par 3 that requires a solid shot to carry the water and bunkers. If the ball goes over the green, recovering could be difficult as this green slopes towards the water with landscaping behind the green. Swirling winds can put doubt into players’ minds with regard to club selection. If possible, keep the ball below the hole for an uphill putt.

Hole 9

Hole #9 is a picturesque par five with pretty views but come with a narrow fairway with out of bounds left and fairway lining trees right. A long drive can set you up to reach this green in two, however, playing it safe is always a good option. Avoid the water on the left side by taking enough club in case the wind is against you. Watch out for this green, as it slopes toward the water.

Hole 10

To start the back nine off, hole #10 is a sneaky par four that dog legs severely to the left.

Aiming for the right side of the fairway is a good line to make for an easy, yet longer, second shot to this flat green.

Hole 11

Hole #11 is A "muscle" par four for any player.

This long hole typically plays into the wind that will requires players to hit two tremendous shots to small green with a long left greenside bunker.

Missing it right isn’t a bad miss.

Hole 12

On hole #12 is a visually straightforward long par three that has one of the flattest greens on the course.

Beware of high winds that can affect your ball as it approaches the green.

Clubbing up, maybe one club, on this hole is not a bad idea.

Hole 13

Hole #13, although a short par four, a straight tee shot is a plus here, any errant tee shot to the right will get you tree and bunker trouble.

The fairway opens up to the green and accommodates a simple approach shot that can give you that birdie you have been waiting for.

Keep the ball below the hole on the putting surface as this green slopes towards the fairway.

Hole 14

Another signature hole, #14 is the shortest in length of all par 5’s.

Be sure to aim down the right hand side of this fairway as your ball will want to run down the left towards the water.

This reachable par five is a risk reward with a deep bunker in the front of the green, so take enough club to carry the bunker and make that eagle putt.

Hole 15

Hole #15 with an ideal drive this can make for a straightforward par four.

Any drive leaking right will have tree trouble.

The approach shot should be played for the right side of the green to avoid the grass bunker left.

Hole 16

The last par five, hole #16 plays tough if any tee shot is lost left or right. A tee shot slightly left will find heavy rough and trees.

Conversely, any tee shot right will find trees and a large fairway bunker. A decision needs to be made for a long hitter to either go for the green or lay-up.

If a player goes for the green, the shot must be played from the right side of the green to avoid the largest bunker on the course left.

If the player elects to lay-up, then the second shot should avoid the same big fairway bunker left so that the third shot allows an easy iron shot to a relatively flat but narrow green.

Hole #17 is a straight par three that is protected by bunkers on three sides.

This hole typically plays into a brisk wind so make sure to take enough club.

Missing the green short is much more preferable than anywhere else.

Beware, any tee shot left will certainly put a player in "jail".

Hole 18

Our finishing hole #18, is a long par four with a fairway bunker and out of bounds on the right and a trees guarding the left side of the fairway.

A straight drive or safe 3 wood is a fine play.

A small green with a greenside bunker on the right can make for an even smaller target to hit.

Aim for the center of the green to allow for any pin position.
